Saving a life of Somali Refugee
For a long time, (P) has been subjected to psychological and physical violence by her mother and older sister. (P) Is a 26-year-old Somali girl who lives in Yemen as a refugee. The last time she was subjected to violence, her mother choked her until she lost consciousness. Then She decided to seek help from the Family Development and Guidance Foundation. The reason for the girl's treatment of this violence by her family was to force her to give up a piece of land valued 200,000$ she inherited from her father.
(P) received all the necessary treatment for her condition, such as counseling and psychotherapy, but her life was still in danger. The foundation then referred her to the Somali community, which includes some social dignitaries. These dignitaries conducted the necessary contacts with the family to ensure the safety of P, and after several attempts, the dignitaries, with the help of counselors at the foundation, (P) had three options to secure her life from danger:
- To seek asylum or resettlement in any place outside Yemen
- to make reconciliation efforts through social mediation and keep the family under observation through regular visits and telephone calls
- Seeking a job for (P) in conjunction with family reconciliation and follow-up.
This intervention led to the adoption of options II and III, and the Foundation, in cooperation with UNHCR, assisted (P) in obtaining a job. Currently (P) continues her life safely and works in a well-paying job.
